so I was using this as a visiual reference and my friend asked me why I was not following the course he had laid out on the GPS chartplotter-I was not using the chartplotter becuase I could see where I was going and had the bow of the boat lined up with the lighthouse! That's fine as long as you co...

The second thing they do is turn the chart so that it's pointed in the same direction as the boat. If the chart people wanted you to do that, they would have printed everything upside down and/or sideways. Hey, this is really helpful for us east west challenged folks. btw, I come by that affliction...

The crew learned a lot on this trip. One really useful thing to remember is that if you plan on a return trip along the same path, that looking behind you for landmarks and being able to triangulate a view things by eye, makes the trip back a breeze.

Were the disabled boats showing lights? Radio and lights should have helped. I've sailed in the areas as well and the larger craft don't have a lot of leeway so us smaller craft do have to pay attention. Being disabled in a busy channel isn't where I'd want to be and I'd have every light on and talk...

Anyone know the names of the boats or where they are normally moored/slipped? Another report said this happened after 9pm so it would have been dark, is that true?

A little story (very short) - when my ex started building his own airplane we pretty much stopped flying.

So, it depends I think on what you like more - building/puttering on boats or sailing in them.

As to where to put them, I was curious about this myself after looking at the various boats in the marina. It seems to me that the best configuration on a floating dock is two vertical fenders just enough to the bow and stern from the fattest part of the boat to have that part not hit when the boat ...

Exactly why I said what I did and why I get nervous when he's out of the cockpit. I'm halfway there but I'd like it to be so ingrained that I don't have to think very much to do it all right.

"The Nutmeg of Consolation" Here's my guess as to what this means: Nutmeg is the seed of an edible fruit. It is itself surrounded by a shroud which when dried is the spice mace. So after you've eaten the fruit and used the mace, you have the further consolation for your effort in harvesti...

The first thing I learned kayaking was stay in the boat and learn to roll it. Second thing I learned as a kayaker was if I had to come out, stay with the boat (and hold onto your paddle). Even with me in a life jacket, the boat tended to float better than I did and it was my only ticket home and no,...
