WTB: Typhoon
We're looking for a Typhoon (with trailer) to sail on the Navesink in central NJ. We'd prefer a Weekender, but are open to a Daysailer. We were proudly the stewards of #549, with which we parted ways in 2002. We understand she sunk at the dock in Mamaroneck and was scrapped. We look forward to rejoi...

Lavac
Finding a good place for the pump is the real problem with installing the Lavac. Some are able to accomodate it under the sink, which, when the handle is removed, makes a clean looking install. Re pumping dry: most heads flush best when there is a little water in the bowl prior to use. We try to lea...

TackTick - Lousy Support
A while back, we bought the TackTick wireless wind system, consisting of a masthead transducer and analog display. Right out of the box, we experienced problems. The transducer wouldn't spin in winds below about 8 kts, which was the threshhold for whether we would bother to pull up the sails, so it ...

You are correct that the idea of the breaker is to protect the wire. Individual fuses can be installed close to an electronic device to protect it, but the main breaker is protecting the wiring and to prevent it from possibly causing a fire. 20A is a lot for a lighting circuit. Most of mine are 10A....

We installed a Lavac last Fall. They offer two versions of the manual pump, one for mounting behind a wall, the other for exposed mounting. You need to have an idea where you will be installing and get the right pump. (In case you can't tell, I planned wrong.) Anyway, we ended up de-installing it an...

As much as I'd prefer barefoot for comfort reasons, I've found that boat shoes have better adhesion when the deck is wet than do bare feet. And when you're slippin' 'n' slidin', you're much more likely to jam or otherwise injure yourself. Sperry's seem to be more and more built for the shore than th...

I have a Raymarine 435 that's become available. It's a current model, MSRP $1,100, in great shape. It would come with the antenna, but without the Navionics chip. It should also tie in to your tiller pilot fairly easily. I upgraded to a multifunction display with radar. I hate to see it sit in my ba...
