lifting ring
Steve That might be the aluminum device we bought from Cape Dory when it was in Taunton, probably 20 years ago. They sold it to us for the specific purpose of lifting our Typhoon and we did so for years. I gave it to Paul Messer. Four Sunapee Typhoons used to use it with the LSYC hoist. All the devi...

olympics
And how about this....Andy Horton from VT and Brad Nichol from NH are the #1 US Star team and thus will represent the US in the China olympics. But Andy has been sitting on Luna Rossa's stern for its entire campaign (an Italian boat) and has been unable to practice with his Star crew or attend any o...

I have crashed twice in helicopters. I can attest that the auto rotate thing really does work but I never knew why until now (English Lit major who flew in the backseat as a medic). You have convinced me that my survival wasn't a miracle but I still don't think that I know where to place the shift l...

flagpole
I made a flagpole from a Star mast which had a small stress fissure. It is tall (35') and thin. I put it in concrete and it has withstood summer and winter NH gales. All hardware was stripped off and then I riveted on a cleat at the appropriate height. It has an internal halliard which eliminates a ...

md7a
We had our md7a rebuilt last year for about $4,500. We pulled and replaced it ourselves (except for the alligning) which proved to be a rewarding experience, both financially and for the opportunity to become very intimate with the little beast.

nice pic
Don't have a better answer for your question. I look forward to hearing how the project turns out since the Edson rep at the Portland boat show told us how difficult it is to install an auto pilot on the 30k. He warned of the tight space that we have to work with when installing a chain drive with a...

time and distance
With the wind behind us (straight line sailing) it took our CD30k a day to sail from Southport Cn to Fisher's Island and a very long day from Fisher's to the east end of the canal. The wind was moderate.

There seems to be current sweeping into the camerperson. Is it possible that the "ferry boat" is actually a bridge?

The easy (perhaps sloppy) way
I once owned a CD25 which came with a two bunk cradle, not three as in your picture. The cradle was used for winter storage at Lake Sunapee NH and had a convenient mark showing where the center (Fore and aft) of the keel should be placed. When the boat was finally moved 150 miles to the ocean we bol...

I want
No living things attached to Pilgrim which aren't human. Being on starboard and closer hauled than other sailboats in the area. No powerboats in the area. Fresh breezes. No rain during the day. Space in the anchorage. Hard ice. Not having to go ashore. A nice view of the sunrise/sunset. My wife not ...

bring her home !
John's explanation is succinct and easily understandable. The issue of getting this baby home is a bit more difficult. We did something similar and almost as adventurous. We bought our CD30K last Thanksgiving and sailed over the holiday (5 days) from Oyster Bay L.I. to Portland Me. After the Cape Co...

fending off.....poorly
While fending off a small powerboat which was approaching to visit I put the pointy end of it's smallish cleat into the fleshy part of my hand (between thumb and index finger. It hurt for a long time and left a gristly looking residue on the cleat.
I am much more careful now.
