Re: We're planning for the Down East Loop in 2016.

Hey CDers! Jenn and I are planning to do the "Down East Loop" next summer on our CD 31. We're wondering if any of the members have done all or part of it and could share any advice or tips. Our route will start in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia and continue down the Nova Scotia Coast to Yarmouth...

Re: Cozy cabin diesel heater

I've used a Force 10 kerosene heater for many years. Looks to me that it was not preheated enough. It takes considerably more preheating with a kerosene stove as compared to an alcohol stove. When properly heated the flame looks nearly like propane. The smoke is from raw fuel burning. I also feel it...

Re: Original CD-27 Color Brochures & Standard Equipment List

Brochure came yesterday. Thanks for you efforts Andy. After enjoying our CD27 for the past 27 years and many thousands of miles it was fun to have a look at the original brochure. Lots of memories including good coffee and conversation with Andy at "The Bean" in Oriental! Fair winds, Loren

Re: Towing a Dinghy

The towing point on my Boatex is well down on the bow. I made a second hole a few inches lower than the original. I attach two dinghy painters which is a bit of a pain at times but in my travels I've met a few who lost one so its my bit of insurance and in some conditions I use them to keep the ding...

Re: Towing a Dinghy

I have towed a 7 ft fiberglass dinghy for a few thousand miles. (Boatex) Found it very handy traveling the ICW and in home waters in fair weather. I do put it on deck in nasty weather and for offshore passages on trips. It fits with stern between the mast and stays on the sarbord side with bow on th...

Re: New Prop Quote

I repowered with a Yanmar 2GM20F in 1998. Currently have over 3000 hrs on engine. I have a 3 blade Michigan 12 X 14 prop. Did not go with a 13 inch due to low clearance.

Re: CD-28 and 30s Sailing Performance

Not to be difficult but I've had some very enjoyable sails with boatspeed of 1 to 2 knots. Now if I was actually trying to get somewhere I'd use the iron genny.

Re: almost new owner cd 27

Some of the modifications: 1) Repowered with 2GM20F and three blade prop in 1998 2) Replaced starboard settee with dinnette (booth) setup 3) Built a hard dodger and added full sunbrella encloser (nearly doubled "living" area - great area for rainy days) 4) All chain anchor rode (180 ft HT ...

Re: almost new owner cd 27

Boat size requirements for extended cruising is very subjective. My wife and I lived aboard our CD27 for 12 months and 6000 miles in 2000 - 2001 and also 3 other extended trips. We have many modifications aboard. Early on in our first trip I assumed a bigger boat would be in our future. By the end o...

splice

If you are using a double braid line it is not too difficult to splice and I would take a splice over a knot. I learned to do the splice though I'll admit it was a bit of a challenge.

heater

I have a force 10 like on the previous post but my fuel is pressurized kerosene. (no longer available) The exhaust outlet is neat, small and lines don't catch on it. I feel that a propane unit would do a good job - if you have a place for a propane tank. The other thing I recommend is a "bus he...

dirty tansom

I raised my exhaust outlet by a few inches and most of the problem was pretty much eliminated. The stock location is so close to the waterline that when motoring the resulting squatting of the stern puts the exhaust in the water.

broad cove

I googled Borad Cove: Looks like there is more than one cove by that name. My son lives near the first one below. The other is about as far east as you can go. Loren http://maine.hometownlocator.com/me/lincoln/broad-cove.cfm http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=broad+cove+maine&gs_upl=0l0l0l2...
