25D waterline
the specs for the 25D shows she draws 3ft 6in but my boat draws 4ft 2in (I have measured this to be exact). Also it appears the original owner raised the stripe to reflect this 4ft 2in draft as the water comes up to the bottom of the stripe when she is in the water. I have her fully loaded: anchors,...

I don't think the weight of the Monitor was a problem. I do try to keep the boat balanced as much as possible, watching what I put in the bow anchor locker and the two cockpit lockers. But it is difficult to do since as you consume fuel, water, food etc the balance shifts. Also I weigh over two hund...

Thankyou for all your kind words. I question myself if I am brave or crazy, determined or hardheaded, etc. I did try to be prepared as best I could before I left. You can't do everything before you leave though, but the ones you fail to do will be the ones that come back to bite you, like not replac...

more on 25D in Ireland
I am back in the U.S. now, having left my boat in Malahide, Ireland, just north of Dublin. I was headed up the Irish Sea to Scotland when my engine quit. An electrical problem I think but it was still not resolved when I had the boat hauled and stored for the winter at Malahide Marina. I believe in ...

25D in Ireland
I made it! A very difficult 15 day sail from the Azores to Ireland. Lots of cold, wet, stormy weather. Had one storm that blew for two days and the waves must have been thirty feet high. Why do I always think these passages will be easy? This was definitely the worst leg of my trip weather wise. The...

stranded in azores need cutlass bearing 25D
Update...............Finally got my boat back in the water after a week on land. Like I said things are not as simple here as in the U.S. The part came to a nearby island last week and then mysteriously got shipped back to the mainland, the guy that runs the travel lift also unloads the big ships an...

stranded in azores need cutlass bearing 25D
thank you Ron and Russell for your input. we did get the cutlass bearing out last night. it does appear worn out but I have not seen a new one yet (hopefully will be here Monday) so I'm not sure what it should look like when not worn. There was play in the shaft ( I grabbed the shaft and felt it as ...

stranded in azores need cutlass bearing 25D
thankyou again for all of your input. I did have the boat hauled yesterday, again things are not so easy as in the states, so I had to grab the chance when I had it. They have a lift but stands and a spot on dry land are a problem so sometimes you can wait a week or two to get hauled. We got the sha...

stranded in azores need cutlass bearing 25D
thank you all for your help and quick replies. I knew I could count on this board to help me. I left Port Charlotte, Florida last May, down thru Marathon and up to West Palm Beach. Then sailed 1000 miles to Bermuda, spent a couple of weeks there and then 2000 more miles to the Azores. Was headed to ...

Stranded in Azores need Cutlass Bearing for 25D
Can someone tell me where to get a cutlass bearing and the correct size (and maybe part #?) for a 25D. If I had the correct size that would be a big help. Also if I am doing this job should I also replace? or service? or check in some way the stuffing box at the same time? I have read several posts ...
