Re: Replacing the inboard engine

Hi Jean, I have been studying the photographs of your engine installation and your descriptions. I have also had more information from the friends who also installed a new Beta 25. They went with the option of getting Beta to make an adaption to hold the engine mounts (Beta offer to do this) they ar...

Re: Replacing the inboard engine

Hi Jean,
On seeing Wales. Well we did do a very successful boat swop with another Cape dory 33 owner (staggered so we could be around for each other).
Something for you to think about!

Re: Replacing the inboard engine

Thank you for that. It is just the sort of knowledge that we need to help us come to a decision. We realised that the engine mounts would need to be modified since all the new engines seem to need 4 mounts. Your photographs of the Beta seem to show a robust and familiar looking engine. Given this ye...

Replacing the inboard engine

Any advice on re-engining a Cape Dory 33 would be gratefully received. Our engine on Ragtime is the original Westerbeke (1983) and we suspect that it will not last very much longer.

Replacing cutlass bearing

The cutlass bearing has gone on our Cape Dory 33 (bearing for prop shaft). A clever engineering friend has offered to replace it but I'm wondering if anyone has done this job and has any tips/advice for him?

Re: Airhead and new stove on CD 31

Hello Jenn and Terry, We have just replaced our old Hillerange pressurized alcohol cooker for an Origo 6000. After living on board for a week and constantly using the cooker I love it! No pumping, no getting the pre-heating wrong and nearly setting the boat on fire. The Hillerange was beautifully bu...

Re: new stove plus storage

From what we have heard from you it seems that the Origo 6000 is the way we will go for a new stove. It looks good and solid and seems to perform well with only minor glitches. 'Not sure about heat diffusers for the rings, for the oven we currently use a piece of old oven metal with perforations (in...

Re: new stove plus storage

We are about to fork out for a new stove and are considering the Origo 6000. Your stove looks good what make is it and how is it performing?

Nice idea with the drawer.

Re: Any suggestions on replacing galley cooker?

Thank you for your replies; it seems that most people go over to gas with relief once their alcohol stoves die! We do have trouble getting alcohol for it but it burns metholated spirits with no problems and that is easy to get here. Any idea of the company that makes the ready made gas boxes mention...

Re: CD 27 Whale Gusher Bilge Pump

When we replaced the flapper valves on our Whale gusher pump we failed to notice that the parts kit came with two types of flapper valve (both very similar) for different ages of the pumps. It took us a while to work out why the xxx thing didn't work. So check carefully.

Any suggestions on replacing galley cooker?

We are the owners of a Cape Dory 33, 'Ragtime'. We have what is obviously the original Hill Range alcohol cooker. Sadly this has come to the end of it's life with all the pipes to the top burners with pin holes of rust, one completely inoperable. What replacement cookers have other people used? We c...

We thought our 6 year old batteries were dead. We took them to the nearest tyre/battery garage and asked them to test them. They said they were O.K. and told us to revive them by topping up the water and adding half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to each cell! 'Seems to be working.

Main sail logo

We have just ordered new sails and as our old main sail did not have the Cape Dory logo we are disputing what the logo actually is for the Cape Dory 33.

I say it is the C with the boat in the middle followed by the 33. My partner says it is C with 33 in the middle. Who is right, or are we both wrong?

We were the other half of Tom and Jean Keevil's boat swap. Having swapped once before, some years ago we were keen to do it again and had had no joy from any of the official boat swap organizations. It literally was just from a chance remark on the Cape Dory message board that resulted in a boat exc...
