Re: Low Profile Anchor Windlass $495
David, basically, I had cruising plans which I never realized. All my sailing in Monterey Bay and environs involved either using a guest slip or a guest mooring. I even had a Triad trailer built with the expectation of returning to the Sea of Cortez to reprise a cruise we made there in the late 70s ...

CDs in the tsunami surge in Santa Cruz
Fellow sailors, last Friday my 25D and her slipmate, a CD27, got hit hard by the tsunami surge in the SC harbor. You will find the YouTube videos interesting. Neither boat sustained really serious damage. I lost some toerail and a bunch of gelcoat to dock abrasion, but we are both dry below and floa...

25D bimini and dodger
Many creative ideas in this boat. Very well done!! You spoke of having a dodger and bimini. I see the dodger in one of the pics. How is the bimini rigged? My dodger has a 64" zipper on the top[ back edge that I assume had a bimini or awning option. Any notion of that design?
Thanks

Well, four days of careful watching has seen the seep related to the hole I drilled stop entirely. I have scheduled a haulout for Tuesday AM and will then drill out the original epoxy putty material, dry everything out completely and replace it with fresh, carefully-applied putty that completely fil...

Gentlemen, thanks for all the thoughtful comments on my bilge hole. Today I checked her again and found a very little bit of water in the bilge. It tasted salty. I then measured from the bottom of the bilge to the top of the hatch, took that number to a scaled drawing of the 25D I have among my effe...

Fellow sailors, an update on the leak: I called my diver to meet me at the slip. Before he arrived, I tasted the water, the very little water, in the bilge. It tasted salty but there was so little and I had been splashing around in there yesterday that I am not 100% persuaded it was the seawater int...

cracks in the bilge floor
Dave, the one piece of detective work I haven't done yet is to taste the water leaking in. Salt would suggest external penetration. Fresh, a leak in the bilge floor. and I would pour only enough resin to level things out and make cleaning easier. I seen resin pots get hot! Thanks for the heads up! D...

Gentlemen, I thank you for many thoughtful replies. A bit more info: SG is in her slip in the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor year around. The stream of water that came up thru the very small hole I drilled came up perhaps 4 or 5 inches. Assuming that I haven't drilled thru to the outside of the hull - and ...

Sudden leak in bilge of my 25D
Fellow sailors, today I set out to fit a new bilge pump in Stargazer. I cleaned the bilge carefully with acetone to insure a good grip with the 5200, located the best spot for the Rule pump, marked the screw holes in the base and put a 3/32 bit in the drill. I drilled down about 1/2 inch and water b...

Winter reading...well, actually, listening
I have, like many of us on this board, read Patrick O'Brian all the way through a couple of times. Then I discovered the recorded version of the series narrated by Patrick Tull and available as CDs or by download from audible.com. This narrator brings the books to life in a way that is truly remarka...
