Low Profile Anchor Windlass $495
This is a Simpson Lawrence Anchorman windlass with a combination chain/rope gypsy. Included is a heavy duty Barient cast aluminum winch handle with a double handed grip. With this low profile windlass and the long handle, you can bring up your anchor easily and without straining. Stop whenever you need to - the heavy pawl takes the load. No heavy windlass on the foredeck or hand-over-handing the anchor rode and chain. This windlass is perfect for a boat in the 20 to 30 foot range. The gypsy is sized for 5/16" HT or 3/8"BBB chain and nylon anchor rodes from 3/8" to 3/4". It's been well-maintained and is in excellent condition. I bought it for my 25D with a 25 pound CQR and 50' of 3/8" chain but didn't mount it. I had in mind to mount in on the aft side of the anchor locker, allowing the chain and rode to spill of I f the gypsy into the locker. Curious as to why you never mounted it? Did you change your mind about the need for a 25lb CQR? or did you end up with a different solution?

David, basically, I had cruising plans which I never realized. All my sailing in Monterey Bay and environs involved either using a guest slip or a guest mooring. I even had a Triad trailer built with the expectation of returning to the Sea of Cortez to reprise a cruise we made there in the late 70s in a S&S Dolphin 24. Stargazer had cruised in Baja with her POs. Sadly, she did not do so with us.
I am persuaded that this Anchorman set-up is the perfectly-sized solution to dealing with an anchor on a 25D. I am past the point where I wish to haul the chain and rode hand-over-hand with my legs braced on the pulpit... Access thru the hanging locker in the forepeak allows one to install a substantial backing plate. I bought the Anchorman at a marine resale shop in San Diego for $500.

Re the CQR, I lost my anchor in the tsunami that swept into the Santa Cruz harbor in 2011. It was in the dock box. I replaced it with a 25# Manson Supreme, which I judged to be the most suited for our holding grounds.
