intermittent overheating

Ron, I feel your pain. Bought my CD27 in March of 2006, she was equipped with the original YSM8. Had intermittent overheating issues through June 2008. Tried everything to fix the problem: impleller replacement, new thermostate and hoses, coolent system flush, new belts. Still intermittent overheati...

Warren, I feel your pain. Made the same repair on my CD 27 last week. Pump was easy to repair but not so easy to remount. One nut is still not in place. Getting in the port locker resulted in the destruction of my favorite work shirt. Will try again when assistance is available.

Bob, I never did figure out what caused my old water pump to malfunction. From my limited knowledge it appears the water pump is simply an impeller driven by a pully attached to a shaft. If the pully is working, the impeller is in good shape, the thermostat is working, and there is no blockage then ...

Had a similar problem with the YSM8 in my CD27(1978 #101). Two years of intermittent overheating. Overheating almost always occurred after restarting the engine after it had been used 30 minutes to an hour then off for a few hours. As a result I became proficient at removing the water pump and check...

Bill, I wasn't at SC this weekend, but plan to come down Wednesday and stay through Friday. I'm retired and tend to do my sailing while others are working. I'm also a grandfather and aplaud your effort to include your granddaughter in your Cheaspeake adventure. From my limited experience, 4years at ...

Hope you enjoyed Spring Cove marina and are having a good time on the bay. My wife, a woman with high restroom standards, gives the SC rest rooms/showers high marks. I keep my CD27, Gabrielle, at slip F13 at Spring Cove.

YSM8 Parts

Talked to my parts supplier yesterday and was informed that Yanmar is no longer supporting the YSM series and that replacement parts are getting sarce. Turns out the part I needed, a water drain cock, was available and is on its way. Any suggesting on keeping these older yanmars running?

rookie sailor - first post

My initial post. And a hardy thankyou to the members of this discussion group. What a fabulous resource for a rookie sailor like myself. I became the proud owner of a CD27, hull #101 (previously named MAI PEN LIA, now Gabrielle) a couple of years ago (Mar 2006). For the 2006-2007 seasons Gabrielle p...
