toe rail track

After a year of being too busy to do boat talk, Im anxious to rejoin the conversation. Im going to blushingly display my ignorance of something basic here, but on my CD 30 MKII I have a long genoa track on the deck, inboard of the lifelines, which is what I always use. But additionally, on the toe r...

thanks for the replies. I guess I didnt think of the sun as being the worst culprit in the varnish wars. Yeah, maybe I will do the underside of the darn rub rail. The bronze strip, that Im not so sure Ill get to, but maybe. I guess I just had a 100 year varnish failure event when the POs varnish job...

one more teak/ cetol question

As the new owner, Im redoing the teak on my MKII 30 for the first time. Im using Cetol natural with gloss chaser. Looks good and Im happy. Im down to the toe and rub rail. Theyre both stripped and I can see theyre basically two separate pieces of wood (which I should have realized as a carpenter) So...

Yes, blowing off the vent hose would be a good assumption. But this is not a fitting place, no projection to attach a tube to it. Just like you took a 3/16 inch drill bit and drilled from the side wall of the bilge area into the holding tank, except smooth and original. Maybe just a defect in manufa...

Holding tank Overflow???

My CD30MKII has what seems to be a molded in passage from the head holding tank (molded into the keel) to the bilge. Its near the top and is about 1/8- 1/4 inch diameter. WHATS UP WITH THAT?? Ive never heard of this before. I discovered it when I noticed a nasty smell after someone used the head whe...

Thanks Cathy, I guess Id rather have water between the headliner and the deck than in the core of the deck. Maybe Ill luck out and have it in both places.

CDMKII deck construction?

Ive owned my CD for 18 months and it came with A LOT of deck cracks. The surveyor with his moisture meter said there didnt appear to be any problems, the conclusion, this was another CD gelcoat issue. Looked bad but not harmful so it wasnt a bargain boat. Last week Im onboard and crank up the Force ...

Wow Cathy, thanks for the reply. It appears that your 32 has almost exactly the same layout as my MKII 30. Your new hatches are exactly what I had in mind. I like your idea of using it for general storage instead of batteries but my bilge always seems to have an inch of water which the pump cant rem...

My batteries are gel which supposedly have less issues. I was under the impression (maybe a wrong impression) that batteries were frequently kept in living areas such as under berths, settees and even under soles but I dont know the official recommendation. And you have a point about lead batteries ...

extra sole hatch to access bilge

I want to create a new battery area in my bilge as my 3 batteries, stored under the port lazarette, create a definite list to port. The bilge in the MKII has a deep section (to bottom of keel)with the bilge pump but also a sloped section which drains things forward of the deep section. This forward ...

impeller change

I have a Westerbeke 21A in my MKII and dont know when the impeller was last changed. (I have owned Wanderlust for only 6 months). I think its pretty straightforward but... the gasket that was sent with the new impeller is very thin, like paper. Does one use permatex or silicone of anything on the ne...

battery location

Question for the CD 30 MKII owners. My boat has 2 house batteries and 1 start battery located on a glassed in shelf that tucks under the cockpit coaming and deck and accesses thru the port lazarette. so, that makes these batteries sit about at the level of the cockpit sole and as far outboard as the...

Im still a little confused. Are you all saying... That its purpose is to tension the leech anytime there is any fluttering? Is this irrespective of whether Im in light wind or heavy? I think I also read from you all that if used too much it creates a cupped main, which would be bad in heavier air bu...
