leech lines
Can someone, or everyone, please give me a primer on the use of my leech lines. I mostly ignore them but wonder often if I should be giving them a yank or something.

Thanks for the unanimous encouragement to forget about the gel coat cracks. Glad no one has had them cause any core issues. Ill scratch that concern off the list. But what is with the CD30 MKII selling for 27K currently on Yachtworld. Ive got a mind to buy it for spare parts at that price. Where was...

gel coat cracks
So, I have this new (to me) 84 MK II with "gel coat" cracks. I've read this was an epidemic and endemic to Cape Dorys. My surveyor didn't detect any noticeable moisture in the deck. I've heard that these cracks are in the gel coat only, that is superficial and not a worry for core moisture...

Other great suppliers
I have bought from them too. Good folks. Id also like to mention some great service that Ive received from Sailboat Stuff and Jack Rabbit (marine electrical). I was actually able to contract them, get a quick response and several follow up replies in addition to them quickly supplying replacement pa...

battery switch and auto parallel relays
Thanks for the reply. Ive been reading about paralleling relays in Calders book and considered it. What worried me was a kind of worst case scenario where I would motor several times a day but only for a short time each, a not unusual situation. If the alternator is wired to the house bank, and as t...

battery swithch
My CD MK II could use some neating up of the wiring. I was thinking that it might make a lot of sense to move the battery switch (1-2-all- off) to inside the cockpit lazarette from its current location inside the cabin. My batteries are in the lazarette and also several heavy wires for a windlass, w...

It seems like finding crew is proving to be hard for the number of times that I want to go sailing. Living in Alaska but sailing in WA requires that friends take a scheduled vacation (as a weekend just doesn't do it) or else I make more friends in Blaine/Bellingham WA. Until I do, I need to learn to...

Im sorry that I dont know what foot switches are on my boat. Im still learning its details. Its not that I stepped on the things while tending the jib or something, as at most times, the cockpit breaker has the windlass turned off. Its while Im using the windlass (when any protective covers would be...

While Im still getting used to a boat with a windlass, Ive noticed that several times Ive inadvertently pressed on the foot switches. This was disconcerting to say the least as I had the rode in my hands at the time while fussing with a snarl. I wouldnt say the I would eliminate the foot switches, b...

NW Rendevous and shift linkage cable
Hi Everyone, Just wanted to report on the NW CD Rendevous which took place last weekend in the San Juan Islands. It was serendipity that I was able to attend as it coincided with a planned sailing trip on my MK II, which by the way was my first time out on it since my purchase and shipping from back...

Floor lifting ring
Im looking for a replacement for a floor board lifting ring It is original, brass and 1.5 inch in diameter. Spartan Marine does not carry them anymore and most other suppliers seems to stock something similar but in 1 5/8 diameter. Is there a source for older CD parts?
