OK I know that "M" means mud and "S" means sand but the "definitions" for "so or sft", is given as soft - what is soft? Other like hard and sticky confuse me as well. Where can I find further explanations?
TIA,
Jack

Re: Rhubarb afloat
I love Strawberry Rhubarb Pie! Strawberry and Rhubarb both are ready for harvest in June and complement each other. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie seems a Divine Invention, it is heavenly.

Re: The Self-Sufficient Sailor by Larry and Lin Pardey
On Moondance, a friends Sabre 452, at night or in 'rough weather' harnesses are required. We have harnesses with integrated inflatable PFDs. They are much more comfortable than standard PFDs so wearing one is NOT a burden we rig jacklines bow to stern and always travel the uphill side.

Sailing Toasts-here are a few but too late
"There are good ships, and there are wood ships, The ships that sail the sea. But the best ships, are friendships, and may they always be." "Here's to tall ships, Here's to small ships, Here's to all the ships at sea. But the best ships are friendships, Here's to you and me." “...

Dining on Moondance
I've often said "There is no reason for not eating well" and rather than agreement I got the job aboard a friend's Sabre 452. We are fortunate to have a freezer (that unfortunately freezes the bottom of the fridge and sometimes the top). I have given up on the oven; it has never worked for...

The difference between men and women
"The difference between men and women is that, if given the choice between saving the life of an infant or catching a fly ball, a woman will automatically choose to save the infant, without even considering if there's a man on base."

I don't intend to highjack this thread or suggest that the discussion is not worthwhile but it has always amazed me how much attention is payed to COB procedures and how little is payed to not falling overboard in the first place. I learned COB procedures by throwing a cushion overboard on a clear d...

We have lee cloths on the 2 salon berths.
And have used them in heavy weather. In my experience one doesn't need or want them to extend too close to either the head or foot. One needs room to climb in and out at the foot and not to be claustrophobic at the head. If your shoulders to knees don't bounce onto the deck neither will the rest of ...

I have 2 large and 2 small mesh 'laundry bags'.
2 large and 2 small mesh 'laundry bags'. I keep my sleeping bag, pillow, and PJs in one large one and dirty laundry in the other. My flippers, mask, and snorkel just fit in one of the smaller ones. You may want to check out these inexpensive mesh bags.

Cape Breton Plans
We leave on Aug 11 and return on 9/1. Probably 4 days in transit plus whatever time we spend in Brooklyn to clear customs and rest. We'll decide our return date according to our whims at the time. I'll be crewing on Moondance, a Sabre 452, not my Cape Dory 28. If you're on the lake when we are, hail...

Highly recommended
3 years ago we were about to join a flotilla to the west coast of Nova Scotia but had to abort due to mechanical problems. One does not want to go into Digby with an unreliable engine. The following two years we explored the east coast first with the flotilla and last year alone and came within 50 n...
