Origo fuel canisters wanted
We're looking to buy two (or even one!) alcohol fuel canisters for our Origo stove. As we explained in a posting elsewhere on this board, the ones that came with the stove we bought new in 2000 have begun to developed leaky spots of rust on their bottoms. Dometic took over the manufacturing of the s...

Re: Origo stove fuel canister
Thanks! We were surprised by the rust, which appeared in a few scattered places on the bottoms of the canisters. It may be worth it to buy a used stove, since, when they were last available, the canisters cost ~$150!

Origo stove fuel canister
We installed an Origo 6000 (2 burners + oven) when we bought our CD31 in 2000. Lovely stove! But about 5 years ago, we noticed that two of the stainless steel fuel canisters had rusty spots on the bottom and were beginning to leak. We shipped one of them off to Practical Sailor 's "Gear Graveya...

Re: CDSOA order form/shop links broken?
I got a nice note from the folks at Albatross, saying that the C+half hull logo is used, unless one wants to pay for a customized "builders plate" logo.

Re: CDSOA order form/shop links broken?
Do the caps, hats and shirts still have the CDSOA logo? The Albatross Embroidery pages do no show any.

Re: Water under engine in molded pan.
The pan under the engine of our 31 collects rainwater that comes into the seat lockers, plus any antifreeze or other liquids that leak out of the engine. It is very hard to bail it with a splonge, owing to small clearance, so we use a little Par pump (like the one use for oil changes) with a stiff h...

Re: YSM8 big issues!
Same thing happened to us on our 27 about 25 years ago. First, we had the runaway problem, when motorsailing and heeled down in the mouth of the Patuxent. We think that had to do with the fact that, when heeled, crankcase oil can be burned: lots of smoke, not throttle control. A couple of years late...

Re: DC black and white wires
I also chose to connect the yellow wire to the hot lead, not directly to the battery. So the radio will forget the presets and it will always be high noon aboard the yacht Windrush.

White is the hot (+) wire on my 1983 boat.

Re: DC black and white wires
Well, I have a multimeter, and I should have checked the polarity. I'll report back, but I think black is positive. Here's another, follow-up question. The new CD player has three power wires (unlike the 2 on the old unit): red, yellow and black. Common sense and the accompanying wiring diagram sugg...

DC black and white wires
I'm installing a new CD player in our 1983 Cape Dory 31, and I cut the wiring for the old unit before looking at it carefully and can't remember which is the positive wire. The DC wiring in our boat is all black and white. Which is which?

What fun!
Lots of good advice on spares and safety equipment. Hormel "hot" chili is the best meal-in-a-can.
We'd add: real sheets and a blanket for your bunk.

Re: Rig-Rite, again
Two years ago we discovered that our mast had split open between 3 and 5 feet from the heel, apparently from the expansion of water that was trapped in the mast by a clogged drain hole and froze during the winter. We had to buy a replacement (fortunately with the assistance of our insurance company-...

Re: Cockpit Table for Cape Dory 27
I made a tiller-mounted cockpit table for our earlier "Windrush," CD 27 no. 181. I trimmed a piece of plywood with teak edges and then made a wooden saddle, keyed into the bottom of the table with two wooden pegs and notched on the bottom for the tiller. The saddle was removable, and the s...
