Arranging body cd28

Gates-cliff I have been in and out of the locker dozens of times in the last couple of weeks getting out the shaft and pump impeller and replacing the cutlass bearing and Stuffing box hose. It was almost impossible working upside down and hands over my head. Now it's pretty easy. I got a big pillow ...

Running diesel on the hard

Take the water intake hose, to the strainer, off the thru hull fitting and run it into a bucket of fresh water. Have a water hose replenishing the water in the bucket that the engine takes out. It works with the engine in neutral but I don't know how you get water thru the cutlass bearing to test it...

Stuffing box hose clamps

I am in the process of replacing the hose, clamps and cutlass bearing on my CD 28 and am able to use ordinary high quality hose clamps. I do have the bronzes tube on the shaft log.

Re: set screws

chase wrote:Hi PK, My CD30 Anne Freeman did not have them. When I replaced cutlass bearing I epoxied some 316 stainless T-nuts and threaded set screws into that. Held up for years despite heavy use.

That's a good idea that I hadn't thought of. Thanks.

CD28 Cutlass bearing set screws?

I am trying to change the cutlass bearing on my CD28 and have read that there should be set screws holding it a couple of inches from the end and that there may be a wire leading to them visible under the gelcoat. I ground out a bunch of filler, gelcoat and glass and don't see any sign of set screws...

Beautiful tanks

Thanks guys, that really gives me something to work with. My original installation isn't nearly as neat or serviceable but now that I know what can be done, I can try to figure out how to replicate it on mine. I really like the custom cradle that they glassed to the hull. I may just put in a small p...

Re: fiberglass beds

The tanks are held in fiberglass beds bonded to the hull, up in the area where your tanks are. metal straps hold them to the beds. I though I had a picture around from a previous post - will either find it or take new ones this weekend Thanks, pictures of the straps and attachment mechanism would r...

Re: SS tanks

My boat has the same mounting method, but luckily came with two brand-new SS tanks. I will take a look to see if they have any markings on them, but I beleive they were somewhat generic, something like 'rick's custom tanks' Matt Matt, What exactly is holding them in. I talked to Sunshine Marine Tan...

Re: Links for pictures...

.....Some people post links to pictures and others actually have the pictures come up on the site. I read the directions but obviously didn't understand them. How do you make the pictures appear in the thread? .... See the following " Sticky " message in the " About this Board "...

Re: Shops closer to the Cape.

You might want to check out one of these two shops: 1. Capeway Welding (part of New England Propellor) in Plymouth, MA, about 20 minutes off the Cape. 2. Kentfab in Hanover, MA, about 40 minutes off the Cape. I've used them both for little jobs and they do good work. Not sure how affordable they wo...

florida Marine Tanks

Cathy, Thanks for fixing the Pic. I just talked to Florida Marine Tanks and they don't make cylindrical tanks. I guess I will have to wait till I get up there, pull the existing tanks and see how to rig up a new tank. Has anybody replaced the round tanks and do you have pictures of how they are atta...

Re: CD 28 fuel tank change

Has anybody ever changed their fuel tank on a CD28? The old tank is showing signs of rust and is pretty gunked up inside. I'm thinking going plastic to avoid this problem. Any comments? John J. You might want to go with an aluminum tank. As we move more and more towards bio-fuels, which don't play ...
