Sounds like fun Capt.

If my First Mate wasn't in Honduras right now we would head out from the Pamlico River to jin up.

By the way, I am looking for a new slip/marina for Morveren. Do you have a slip, and if so would you recommend I check out your marina?

Thanks

Seeking Advice from Carolinas Fleet

As predicted, McCotter's rates are increasing after the big fire. If the other amenities were up to market standards, I wouldn't mind, however...

Can anyone advise as to other marinas in the area (Neuse river, Pamlico River, anywhere is game) I should inquire about moving my boat to?

Thanks!

Post script, FWIW

I selected the galley faucet (Russel's) because of it's low profile (pump cylinder is below countertop) which makes for better shipping of pots and pans to and from the sink after dinner. I did have to re-position the faucet to a new location, but was well worth the effort.

I have both!

I use Russels in the galley. A little olive oil on the shaft once or twice a season will make it so easy to pump that I never consider switching to an electric pump. I use Melissa's for the vanity sink for the exact reason: the overhang clearance. It, too works like a charm with plenty of room. The ...

Sounds good Andy

Let us know where you go, I'm always looking for new short-cruise ideas for this area.

Pam and I wend on a 4-day outing last weekend. As you recall the wind was up pretty constant day and night - made for interesting nights on the hook(s).

Toe stubbers, yes indeed.

On the 270, the track is smack dab in the middle of the side deck, and I am forever stubbing my toe on the cleat.

FYI my tracks are definitely through-bolted w. backing plate every 8 or so inches.

Thanks all!

I think for now I will use the cleat as a "normal" spring line, and as a spring line to aid in docking, but not a storm line. in that case, i will use longer dock lines and go to a midships piling.

T-Track mounted cleats

Hi Gang, Is there any conventional wisdom on the use of t-track mounted cleats for docking and spring lines? I keep envisioning undue side-loads that might loosen the bedding or other wise cause leaks along the track. It would be nice to use midship spring lines for the upcoming hurricane season, bu...

Bob Perry article

Not that it's all that relevant, but this month's Good Old Boat has an interesting article by Bob Perry regarding changes to a boat's configuration to improve weather helm, including sloop-to-cutter conversion. Since I have a stemhead/masthead sloop (CD 270), one interesting fix was to add a bowspri...

Thanks for the tip Stan - though I hope a banjo string will do! ;-)

Bomar hatch removal

Hi Cathy,

How was it removing the hatch? Did you need to use a de-bonding agent against 3M 5200?

I agree

If I didn't already have my 270, I'd be on my way down there.

Yes Bill

Over half of that dock (all that was covered) is reduced to the waterline. I'm 2 hours away so havent actually gone down there yet. The arial news shot showed Morveren to be safe. Plus i figured the pace will be stacked up with EPA and salvage crews for weeks to come. You mentioned the bathhouse - i...

sounds like your call was closer

Sheesh, this happened with you too? Before last haul-out, we were on that dock 2 slips away from the covered section that likely provided the fuel to engulf the dock from that point out (as seen in the arial shots). This is the oldest marina in the east coast, and while I adore its charm (and lower ...

Sad times in North Carolina

McCotter's Marina Fire: http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/8897004/

This is Morveren's home base. There were quite a few live-aboards here that narrowly escaped with their lives. I am fortunate to have a slip on an adjacent dock. This has no doubt ruined many folks' new year :-(
