Judy nd I completed the installation of the 2nd reefing system (padeye, cheek block, cleat) 3 weeks ago. Prior to that, I had to *try* to get a line around the boom and through the grommet (leach) under the wind conditions that warrant a 2nd reef line. It's just too unmanagable and dangerous out the...

Off topic, but...
My rather salty brother put this web site up years ago and I completely forgot about it. If you enjoy tall ships, you'll like some of the photos here. There is even an interactive game that teaches you about the sails and the running rigging ("pin chase"). http://www.crewdog.net/ship/index...

Thanks, and allow me to clarify
I had reduced the roller-furled genny to what I felt was a goos compromise between keeping her somewhat upright and still be able to make way so we could tack away from an oncoming lee shore. I wasn't clear in my description so I'll clarify: i was trying to tack in order to heave-to. I had but one r...

OK, What's the deal - how much wind is too much?
The biggest value Judy and I get from sailing is that we learn something significant every time out. It can be something about basic seamanship, maybe it's a discovery on how to effect engine fixes while stranded, or even new and successful galley storage scheme. I've read where CD's are strong and ...

Not I... yet
The main reason being we would have to invest in a host of equipment (radar, SSB, wind vane, etc) as Morveren is factory stock - very spartan in terms of equipment.

Cape Dory's Shoal-Drafter
Alas I must weigh in on Cape Dory's shoal-draft design in so far as pointing and tacking are concerned. Even though it is a different design (Empacher), the keel, when overlaid with the Alberg design, is almost identical save for the depth. It's as if its the Alberg keel held to a belt sander. In cr...

Alcohol
Alcohol from your nifty pressurized stove works well (i cup or so) to recombine the water droplets and carry them off. Will speed evaporation thereafter.

And here I thought I was being original!
I wished I had thought of the chain method: i used a few handfuls of old drywall screws. They were easy enough to dump back out, but the chain would have been 1) easier and 2) heavier and more effective without a 2nd application necessary. After all that, I decided the initial pitting and corrosion ...

I belong to the D Rush school on this one
aside from flow separation at the aft end of the body (one reason for turbulent flow) there has been a lot done to maintain laminar flow along the sides by controlling the "boundary layer" on the surfaces. Here is an example of *what I suspect* is a design feature to control flow at the in...

I hear tell of a method of using the boom as a derrick to lift out the engine, but never saw it done. Is that what I see here? Cool!

indeed!
When we took ownership there was a nice pen/ink drawing of the boat itself framed in 5x7 and, you guessed it: velcroed to the salon bulkhead. We, too, are all about the classing up of the place, "real elegant like". Works great and stays put no matter what.

Good advice
I'm with Wayne on this one.
As for refurbs and exchange credit, Dr. Diesel here at http://www.foleyengines.com/ is extremely helpful. Lots of online resources on this site, too.
