Farewell Fellow Cape Dory'ers
It is with a heavy heart that I bid you all farewell as I sold Sirius this weekend. Please welcome Peter and Claudia, her new owners. I am quite certain they will benefit from and enjoy the collective wisdom, and wit, of this Board and it's members. It's been a great 12 years and this Board is an in...

Hydrovane Self Steering
Does anyone have experience with this UK made windvane? It is different from the more "traditional" windvanes, e.g. Monitor, Aries, Cape Horn, etc, in that it is not connected in any way to the boat's steering/rudder system. Rather the windvane's own rudder makes the heading adjustments. O...

Re: Avanti made it to Bermuda!
Bravo Zulu Andrew & Kelly on this achievement. And kudos on the videos. They are fun, informative, well edited, with good looking actors...all with great production values. Could've used a bit more character development though :D Looking forward to reading your answers to the questions asked by ...

Re: Cape Dory Owners at Herrington Harbor in Deale, MD?
Hi Dave, We keep Sirius, our CD-33, at HHS on A-Dock...right across the fairway from Jim Evans and "Le Rève", his CD-33, on B-dock. As Jim mentioned there is a cocktail party on the beach at HHS Saturday afternoon. We will not be there but it will be a good opportunity for you to meet othe...

Re: Bermuda
Steve, First - congratulations on this achievement. You make all us desk-bound CD'ers dream of far away places. Second - so many questions. So here are just 2: 1) What is your navigation set-up? What do you have in the cockpit/at the helm and what do you have below deck at the navsta? 2) How did you...

Re: Cape Dory 33 stuffing box
When in extremis, you can use a large pipe wrench opened wide. But the Spartan Marine spanner wrench is better.

Re: Poli-Glow - UPDATE
Hi All, I bump this 2008 thread back to the top as a friend, who also owns a "good old boat", recently and enthusiastically recommended Poli Glo to me. How has Poli Glo stood the test of time? Are you still happy with it? I am tempted to do the topside this spring and enjoy the shine all s...

Re: Engine Panel Rebuild
This is where I am on this project. It's taken longer than I planned (imagine that!) to gather the various bits and pieces. Is New Shaft Needed?
As many of you know, I am doing a lot of needed engine work this winter. I recently posted a series of pictures on the shaft log seal and this post is related. It is a close-up of the section of the shaft that goes through the cutlass bearing. As you can see, the shaft is scored and it was suggested...

What Color for Engine Control Panel Box?
So I have all the parts, bits and pieces necessary to rebuild the Engine Control Panel, but the original box looks like h*ll. No other way to put it. I want to repaint it and the obvious choice is the original black and that's easy enough. My question is - if not black, then what color? The obvious ...

Re: What You Don't Know Can Sink Your Boat
My new to me CD22D presently sits with its Yanmar engine removed for repairs so this is a perfect ime for me to inspect the mysterious stuff behind the engine. Only problem is, I am not sure what to look for. Any pointers would be appreciated. I was planning on repacking the stuffing box but what e...
