SS cleaning
I get a fair amount of crevice corrosion (rust) around the bolt heads that attach the bases. To clean the rust stains, I wet one of the bases and make a paste with Barkeepers Friend covering it completely...I let this stand a few minutes then I take an old electric toothbrush and polish them with on...

check the hoses...
If your boat is in saltwater, I would suggest removing all of water hoses and make sure they aren't full of critters...barnacles love to grow in the hoses, the flow of water brings them lotsa food. If the hoses are in good condition, you may be able to clear them by beating them on the dock and flus...

Propane safety
If you are concerned about safety, propane tanks mounted on the stern rail should be in an airtight storage locker with a drain hose extending close to the water level. While at anchor or on a mooring, if the water current swings the stern of the boat into the wind a leak could fill the cockpit and ...

Re: CD30 - Can a 5hp Honda be hung on the stern pulpit?
I have a Honda 5hp 4-stroke hanging on the pushpit of my CD30c...it is a bit of a heavy load that far aft, but I couldn't find any other place to carry an outboard motor. I also have a Forespar Nova lift ( http://www.forespar.com/onlineCatalog/2007/Sailboat/30sailing_novaDavitNovaLift2007.shtml ) mo...

RE: Redoing Non Skid Decks
OJ was it maybe Gibco Flex-Mold... http://www.gibcoflexmold.com/ also, see: http://www.westsystem.com/ewmag/22/nonskid.html I watched the guy across the dock from me apply the following method with excellent results...he didn't sand off the peaks, though, since he wanted a very aggressive non-skid s...

RE: CD36 predecessor: Adriatic Alberg 37???
I am the original poster. When I viewed the boat I saw back in 1999, it was located at a brokerage in Brandenton, Florida. The name of the boat was Sugar. At the time I had already looked at several Cape Dories and this boat looked exactly like them in almost every aspect...the same brokerage had 2 ...

check the tach...
your tachometer may not be reporting the correct speed...most are off by a few hundred rpm's, sometimes even on a brand new engine with a new control panel.

The trim problem is common. I don't think what I have loaded aft in my CD30c is consistent with the design...5 gal water heater, 2 group 31 batteries, spinnaker, extra sheets and dock lines, a 5hp outboard, bbq grill and propane, helm seat, emergency tiller, etc. She tends to squat a bit. As a test,...

OJ, from my understanding of what I've read and been told... #1 the zinc must have good contact with the metals that it is protecting #2 just being close provides no protection for any metals located nearby...if this were not true, then why would we ever go to the trouble of attaching a zinc to the ...

OJ, paint remover should definitely remove the paint and make all well...but I would think that applying it underwater would be the trick. Wire brushing it would also work and, hopefully, the uninformed person who painted it didn't put one coat of paint on the shaft before remembering to install the...

I have the same setup...donut zinc forward of the prop...2 nuts with cotter pin aft of the prop. The zinc should not be painted (they don't work very well that way, but they will last longer since they aren't working)...it should also not be up against the stern-tube/cutlass-bearing or it will restr...

opposing forces when reefed?
Wouldn't the forces be distributed the same with a reefed main? You are changing from somewhat evenly distributing the force on the boom to just having the force on the two ends.

holding tanks
the 2 tanks (Ronco B486 and Kracor mold-#5159 tank-#2-6256)are the same dimension...i have had both, my original was the Kracor and I now have the Ronco. The Ronco is a copy of the Kracor except it is 3/8" thick instead of 1/4". Apparently, someone is misquoting the capacity...I did not me...
