Does anyone have a recommendation for a surveyor in the SF Bay Area who's familiar with (or even seen) a Cape Dory powerboat?
Thanks for any help.

Speaking of Flybridges ...
Mitchell's question got me thinking about what goes through the flybridge deck. This might be worth sharing. Long ago I put two holes through the flybridge deck inside the helm enclosure, and glassed short pieces of PVC pipe in them. One is for ventilation, and goes through the headliner. There's a ...

Re: Canvas Snap Setting Recommendations?
Thanks, Rich. The Press-N-Snap is the best tool but they're $150 and I can't bring myself to pay that for one or two snap repairs a year. Anyway, I figured out the problem. I was using a snap tool from a sewing and crafts chain store. The die that presses into the rivet and spreads it is a six-sided...

Canvas Snap Setting Recommendations?
I need to do a better job of installing snap fasteners (button and socket) in my Sunbrella window covers. My inexpensive snap tool splits the stud in about 6 places, rather than rolling it in one piece. So the snaps don't last too long. Is that a problem with the stud (nickel-plated brass from West ...

Volvo TAMD41B Fuel Hose Question
The yard replaced the lines to and from the fuel tanks on my Volvo TAMD41B diesel inboard engines. Three months later, they're leaking. If you have this engine with original hoses, can you tell me what the hose diameter is? The yard used 3/8" - 9.5mm hoses. The barbs are 9mm and the hose goes o...

Re: Happy Birthday CD Message Board
The memories are coming back ... The board started off using the WWWBoard message board software, written in PERL. It was easy and free. By 2005 there were much better alternatives that made our board look crude, and it was vulnerable to spammers. So Cathy, Bob Dugan and I wanted to move the board t...

Re: Happy Birthday CD Message Board
It was originally called the Cape Dory Information Exchange. CD had gone out of business not too many years before, and CD owners were hungry for information and to talk with other owners, especially those of us out here on the West Coast. It seems obvious now, but in those days it was a pretty new ...

Re: DC Panel Battery Bank Switch - CD 30 Power
The switches made specifically for battery banks are less expensive. They can carry higher current, but are not cosmetically suited for a DC power panel. I thought about using one but it would have required modifying the panel and might not have fit. This is an industrial high current switch, and th...

Re: DC Panel Battery Bank Switch - CD 30 Power
Problem solved. I located Salzer USA in Mesa, AZ. Google them if you need the phone number. The part number on the switch was no longer valid, but the switch type is still made. An engineer there worked with me to specify the exact switch configuration. It was assembled to order in the factory in Ge...

DC Panel Battery Bank Switch - CD 30 Power
I'm looking for a source for a replacement battery switch for my DC panel. It's four position - Off - Port - Both - Stbd. The switch is marked Salzer 432 but apparently it comes in a lot of configurations. http://toolworks.com/temp/DC%20Panel%20Main%20Switch.jpg http://toolworks.com/temp/DC%20Panel%...

Re: Cape Dory Registry Repaired
Apparently the registry has been hacked again, Walt. Do you know if it will be repaired at any point or is it a thing of the past now? I guess it's a fossil. I'm no longer maintaining it. I might try to freeze it but won't even be able to look at it until December. I haven't been paying attention, ...

Nostalgia Time
I was cleaning out old files and came across this 15 year old article from back in the early days.
Some of the old timers will enjoy it. Most of you will think "Isn't all that stuff obvious?" But 15 years ago we were still inventing a lot of it.

First of all, apologies for posting to such an old thread. I haven't been on the board in months, obviously - haven't even had my boat out since October (and this is California). However, having had this issue brought to my notice by Masthead, I have to toss my two cents in, although it may be too l...

Cape Dory Registry Repaired
In response to a couple of complaints by Cape Dory owners who could not edit their entries in the Registry, I found that a hacker had inserted some invisible code in the page in an apparent attempt to game Google. This broke the editing function. This has now been fixed. I don't know how long it wil...
