Re: Please Spam Me With Your CD 22 Stories
Chris, It's interesting that you say that about the outboard. Just this weekend I was thinking how glad I am to have the outboard hanging off my CD 22 stern and not shoved in a well. I was parallel parking along the dock and can use the outboard like a combination motor and stern thruster. (The boat...

Re: Typhoon Senior hull speed under power
Good suggestion. I used Alan a couple of years ago to haul my CD 22 and liked his service. He's in Florence SC, so a couple of hours from Southport. The linked topic has the same phone number that I used. My son did the ICW in the other direction in my CD 22 / 6 HP Tohatsu and loved this section, bu...

Re: Laptop for chart plotting?
Dave, There are lots of right answers to this question. Look around at what your friends are using and copy the one you like best. I switched from a Garmin four years ago when my son "borrowed" my GPS. I use an iPad Mini and Navionics and would never go back. I love being able to sketch a ...

Re: Transporting a Cape Dory 22
Alan Stewart hauled my CD 22 from New Orleans to Portland, ME. He showed up right on time and did a professional job. I was kept informed of his progress along the entire route. Kudos...

Re: Transporting a Cape Dory 22
Oh yeah! I'm really glad that I made the time to spend a couple of days with him near Charleston on the southbound leg. (Local knowledge tip: T.W. Graham in McClellanville, SC, for the seafood. The shrimp on your plate here came from that boat you see over there...)

Re: Transporting a Cape Dory 22
Thanks for the help--this is all set. Alan Stewart has agreed to tow my boat to Maine.

Transporting a Cape Dory 22
My son sailed our CD 22 from Portland, ME to New Orleans. Two days before he left New Orleans for the return trip he was in the University Medical Center for an emergency appendectomy. He has recovered but no longer has the time to sail it all the way back. That means we are stuck with the boat in N...

Re: The Best Wax EVER
I used the Collinite 925 cleaner followed by the 920 wax and my 33 year old hull looked the best it had in years. I bought it at Hamilton Marine--a pretty no-nonsense place--and gently complained about the price to the clerk. Her reply, "In this case, you'll get what you paid for." She was...

Re: Mildewed cabin cushions
I agree with the 'get the cover' off argument. I had the same situation and discovered that my spouse was right--it really is not hard to remove the zipper. I did it myself. Installing something back on the cushion to close it is the harder part. I was prepared to just use velcro tabs when she took ...

Inflatable Dinghy Floor Opinions Wanted
I am planning to buy an inflatable and wonder about people's experiences with a couple of floor options. My decision criteria centers around: 1) stability underfoot, 2) cheap, and 3) storage (I sail a 22). The Mercury 200 inflatable on Defender looks like it will fit the cheap criteria, but which fl...

Re: Fog Rant
I was feeling pretty smug after reading this since I do the 'right' things in fog, including running the Davis radar reflector up the mast. And then I started wondering "Do I know that people actually see me on their radar?" The instructions make a big deal about orienting the reflector in...

Re: Mildewed settee cushions
Here's a Plan B that worked for us. Our cushion zippers were fused together and we wanted new foam but did not want to spend a fortune on new covers. We removed the old zippers and sewed in new zippers. It wasn't too hard or time consuming. Then you can remove the old covers and treat them in whatev...

Re: Laptop for Onboard Navigation (as a backup)
Dick, I experimented with something similar. A $300 netbook + gps puck + free software + free nav charts = chartplotter for under $350. I liked the functionality but wanted to use it in the cockpit. Sunlight hitting my laptop screen made it unreadable so I chalked it off as a failure. I sometimes ca...
