The last 4 characters in a HIN indicate the manufacture date. Two different systems were used. Most often the 9th character is an M (for manufactured?) followed by two numerals indicating the model year, with the last character as a letter coded to indicate month of manufacture (only Cape Dory knows...

I do not like a bulkhead mounted compass because it requires that 3" hole, is not on the center line, and precludes sitting with your back against the bulkhead. In our 25D we mounted the compass on the inside of the bottom companionway drop board. On those few occasions where we were sailing a ...
