I used BoatLife Lifeseal sealant at the wood sections around rudder post in the cockpit with good results.

Some time ago I looked at a CD 25D that also had a raised boom (also to accommodate a bimini). It is my recollection the owner said the "shortening" was done by Mack Sails also. The owner said he was very happy with the performance, etc. There was a discussion of raised booms on this board...

Diesel Mechanic in New Jersey

I am looking for a diesel mechanic in the New Jersey area, preferably along the coast who is familiar with Yanmar. I have spoken with Mack Boring. While they are obviously very qualified, they charge "door to door" and their hourly rate is well above my meager pension. Thanks in advance fo...

Marine Surveyor in New Jersey

I am looking for a marine surveyor in the New Jersey area, preferably along the coast. My obvious preference would be for a surveyor familiar with Cape Dory sailboats.

Thanks in advance for any and all recommendations.

Rod: I used a Milwaukee "variable heat" heat gun and GAM Precise Paint Scraper with good results. This combination took off several layers of varnish. I was then able to sand the teak smooth and prep it for Cetol. The scraper was purchased at WM. Product information, etc. at: http://www.ga...

There were Star class races at the sailing club last week. There was one Star sailboat that had an unbelievably beautiful wood foredeck. I asked the owner about it. He said it was a type of Brazilian wood and then told me what he applied to it to make it so beautiful and shiny and very slippery. As ...

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and comments. They are much appreciated.

So far, I have only used Cetol products and have been very happy with them. I am sure Minwax Helmsman Spar is a good product and has its usefulness in certain places on a sailboat.

Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane

A friend has recently applied Cetol Marine Natural Teak to several pieces of new teak on his refurbished sailboat (sadly not a Cape Dory). He is now thinking of applying Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane as a protective sealant. http://www.minwax.com/products/exterior_clear_protective_finishes/helmsman_...

Hello Jim: I am sure others with a lot more experience and expertise than I will shortly jump in with suggestions, comments, etc. In the interim, I would offer the following observations. There is always a lot of discussion about "deck compression" on Cape Dory Typhoon Weekenders. It is ap...

Dean and Lenny:

The phrase that comes to my mind:

One picture is worth a thousand words :!:

Lenny, if I need your "expertise" on my hopefully to-be-soon-purchased CD 25D are you willing to travel to Miami :?: :D
