Looking for Cape Dory 25D in Very Good to Bristol Condition

I assume many on this board are thinking about and/or beginning preparations for "Spring commissionings"

If anyone is thinking about possibly selling their Cape Dory 25D or knows of a Cape Dory 25D that is for sale I would very much appreciate an email or PM.

I parted with S/V Tadpole in October 2010. It was a difficult decision and a sad day. The person who said "the two happiest days in a sailor's life are when he buys his sailboat and when he sells his sailboat" did not sail a Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender. The day I bought her and took her home was a very happy day. The day I sold her was a very sad day.

So, I am a tadpole sailor without a sailboat. Not a good situation. I hope to correct it as soon as possible.

What your reasoning is for wanting a 25d...vs maybe a 27 which you can buy for the same price or less and have a bigger space and it's not anymore difficutl to sail...I would think about this 10 times before you jump.. Way back 15 yrs ago, I was pretty much a novice and went from a 26 to a 34 and never looked back at that being too much of a jump...good luck

Shavdog, your curiosity is reasonable. Many on this board have urged me to look at CD 27s in addition to CD 25Ds. I have been reluctant because I do not believe I have the skills to singlehand a CD 25D, let alone a CD 27. Unfortunately, the CD 25D is the smallest size that will allow me to do the things I would hope to do with her - Keys and Bimini trips possibly.

I have looked at a few CD 27s and will continue to look at them as they appear on the market, although I think my sailing skills are inadequate to single hand a CD 27.

So, if anyone knows of a CD 25D (or a CD 27) in very good to Bristol condition that is, or will soon be, for sale, please let me know.

there is a beautiful, late-model CD27 for sale up in New Jersey. I checked her out a few weeks ago, and she is in great shape with quite a few extras. I am trying to order my affairs such that I can make an offer on her myself, but I'm not sure it is going to work out and this boat is begging for a good home. Yo Seahunt, You missed the 2 best 25D's I've ever seen this summer at VERY good prices. The one in NC is lovely; I know the man who owns her, she's been in fresh water for a long time and she' pristine. Yeah, the 27 is bigger, but the 25D is a solid able cruiser that would take you anywhere.Besides, she feels like a much bigger boat. Drive up and buy it.

Unfortunately for me the Bradenton Cape Dory is a CD 25 not a CD 25D. I sort of have my heart (and mind) set on a CD 25D.

Hi Seahunt,

I don't think your jump from a Typhoon to a 25D or 27 is too small....it's a good jump up. You might find a CD33 too much at this point, but I'm sure you can sail either one of the others yourself. Having owned a 27 and sailed a 25D with my old friend Dick Bartel, I can assure you they are more alike than different in the way they sail and handle. They both have advantages and disadvantages, so just pick the one that best suits what you want and need. 27s are a lot more available, however. Have fun looking, I always enjoyed that greatly. And once you master the new boat, you can begin your search for a 33 or 36.....you'll be ready!! Good luck!

I own a 27, and have sailed on a CD26 (which is a CD25D hull with an outboard well). I'd be happy with either, though I do find the 27 to be more tolerant of heavier winds.

The 27 has more privacy in the head, and a more useable galley.

25D or 26 (outboard) or 27, whichever shows up first at the price you want to pay. All fine boat and all sail well, with the 27 -- in my opinion -- a better sailor.
