This is probably a question for CD 330/36 owners mostly... I've been considering the addition of running backs from the existing 3/4 shroud mast fittings in preparation for cruising. A friend of mine is a rigger and insists that the long ocean passages and pumping of the mast along the way can greatly increase the risk of a rigging failure. While he agrees that the rigging on the boat is sound - the addition of the running backs would only add to that and would be worth the effort. Has anyone else made this addition?
Also, we discussed the addition of turnbuckles from the mast to the cabin top down below. He said that this eases the stresses on the deck laterally and helps distribut the mast loading. Again - has anyone else made this addition?
Please reply with and thoughts or opinions.
