The spreaders are bent on my Typhoon (Came that way when I purchased the boat). More specifically, it's not the spreaders themselves, but the flat SS "attachment plates". I want to remove them this winter to have them repaired. It appears that there is a through bolt attaching both spreaders. I am worried that if I remove this, there may be some sort of compression sleeve inside that will fall out of place.
Has anyone taken their spreaders off, and if so, is there any kind of compression tube internal to the mast that I have to worry about, or is it simply two bolts?

Re: Cape Dory Spreaders - removal information
The plates that you refer to are only through bolted. There is nothing inside. I did this procedure on a Ty that I owned because one spreader was tipped lower compared to the other. I managed to straighten the fitting (piece that spreader is attached to) by placing it in a vise and bending it slightly. Good luck.
