HAPPY AND SAD TIMES: Full Circle
It was certainly great reading about how Larry, Warren, Bill, et al had a great weekend sailing. However, my weekend was a mixture of glad tidings and somber thoughts.
I went to Marion to see Scott's new CD26 (my old boat). Although Scott and his wife had not shown up yet, the marina launch was gracious enough to take me out to see her. I got some good shots of "Gumper" nee "Mr. Peeps", and two other CDs in the harbor. A CD30K and a CD Ty weekender. According to Carl, the launch operator, several of the workers at Burr Bros. have Cape Dories. I also was able to determine that my old boat yard was still in operation, so while I was in the neighborhood, I went there.
The Aucoot Boatyard is under new management as of May of this year, which explained why no one ever returned my calls for a mooring. Paul, the new owner/manager was gracious to show me around, and assured me that I would have a mooring for next year. I was estatic.
Not only did I find my old boat in good shape (Scott should be arrested for the stealing of this boat!), but I was able to secure a mooring in the cove I loved so much. After eleven years, I have come full circle.
After all this excitement, I drove to the Red Witch III to begin prepping her for haul out and winter storage on Sept 30th. The sails and booms we taken down, and with the wind blowing 20+, she was chomping at the bit for another sail. Unfortunately, I am scheduled for knee surgery soon, and like others, I need to get some work done, while the weather is still nice, and start the spring work early.
I owe the success of this season to this board, and all of you who assisted me in solving my major problems.
Thank you.
May Spring Come tomorrow.

Re: HAPPY AND SAD TIMES: Full Circle
Gary,
Best of luck with the knee surgery! Get that overwith and the repairs underway before spring hits and you want to be out sailing again! Next year, you will have a better operating knee..something to really look forward to I imagine (have a trick knee from football days in college, and it is a candidate for some foolin' around by the surgeon too..ugh).

Gary,
Best wishes for your personal winter refit; may it put that spring back in your step.
On a few occassions we sailed aboard Dragon Lady out of Marion back in the 50s. A wonderful harbor full of fond memories.
Keep on sailing,

Thank you both for your kind posts. However, I am not melancholy, just disappointed that the season ends so quickly. My year began with the hopes that my lawsuit would finally be finished in my favor, and I would be able to afford another CD. Next thing I know I own a boat, which was bigger than I expected. The stresses of work, getting the cutlass bearing completed and launched, and finding a new home seemed overwhelming. And yet, the first sail in May made it well worth it.
Even the problems with the engine, first shorting out, and then overheating, could not dampen the sailing.
The new mooring at Aucoot Cove will be great. Four miles to the Cape Cod Canal. Five Miles to Woods Hole and Hadley Harbor/ Marthas Vineyard/ Nantucket, etc. Short sails to Cuttyhunk and numerous anchorages around the Elizabeth Islands. Red Witch III and I will be home again.

Gary,
I have been sailing out of Fall River for the last 3 years. Two weekends ago I sailed my CD25D to Mattapoisett Harbor and will be on a mooring in the harbor next season. I will have the use of the mooring for the remainder of the season. If the timing is right and you want to go for sail send me an email. I have not sailed on a larger CD and would be interested in sailing with you next season.
Good luck with the knee, my father just had his worked on, he and the knee feel much better.

How'd you get so lucky. Aucoot Cove lies in between Sippican (Marion) Harbor and Mattapoisett Harbor. I will be using their town dock to fill water and pump out. You can always reach me at my e-mail.
Also, when are you pulling out? I could get some good images of your boat under sail from the lighthouse.
Fair winds,

Re: HAPPY AND SAD TIMES: Full Circle
Gary,
I'm sorry we missed you. We drove down through the early morning on Friday after working 'till 2am. Spent Friday cleaning the interior out and finally went to bed at about 10pm. It was noon on Saturday before we finally got up and made it back to the boat. We spent all day Saturday and Sunday morning cleaning further, installing a new vhf, interior lighting,etc... Finally on Sunday afternoon we went sailing out into the bay for a few hours. It was a beautifull day, flat water, winds 10-15 knots. Crowded by my standards but very enjoyable.
I plan on coming down as much as my schedule allows over the next 6 weeks or so before taking the boat south. If an any time you'd like to go sailing, you're welcome to come along. I always welcome another's experience.

I will be keeping my boat at MBY, so I guess that helps. Pull out date will be aroung the 2nd or 3rd week of October. I plan to get a few more sails in some during the week and hopefully a couple of weekends. I will keep you posted and a picture under sail would be nice.
Fair winds to you.
