Annapolis Boat Show Recommendations

Post by Mario »

Folks--

I got several backchannel messages asking for some advice about the boat show in Annapolis, so I thought I'd post what I know from experience. Those of you who have been before already know this stuff.

First, if you don't have a reservation for an Annapolis hotel by now, you're probably out of luck. What rooms may be left are probably very expensive. However, BWI airport is only 25 miles away and there are many hotels there. The gates don't open until 10:00 so you'll have plenty of time to get from your hotel to the show. Check with Expedia or your favorite hotel website.

Second, parking is available at the Naval Academy stadium for $5 or $6, if memory serves. Shuttle buses run between the show and the stadium every few minutes. On-street parking in downtown Annapolis is non-existent during the show, and the parking garages are usually filled with exhibitor's vehicles.

Third, get your tickets in advance by going to

http://usboat.com/shows/sbhomes.htm

You'll save $3 per ticket on the $15 admission and you won't have to stand in line.

In the past we've also stayed in the Glen Burnie area, there's a Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn and Days Inn in Glen Burnie, MD. You can also try the Historic Inns of Annapolis. We stayed at The Robert Johnson House the last time we were at Annapolis. It was very nice and an easy walk to the boat show as well as everything else in town. It's right near the State House and the Governors Mansion. I seem to recall that they had valet parking -- don't know where they parked the car though and it didn't matter.

We've also stayed at the Jonas Green House Bed & Breakfast and liked that too. So try checking with The Annapolis Bed & Breakfast Assn. too.

Good Luck and have fun!
