Michigan safe-anchor areas

This is not specifically related to Cape Dory yachts, but to any of us who sail the Great Lakes.
I have heard that the state of Michigan has established, or is establishing, a series of safe-anchorage sites on the Great Lakes surrounding it. From what I understand, these spots are supposedly places where boats on the Lakes can anchor for the night or take refuge in during bad weather. They are supposedly free of charge, but also have no amenities in them. Does anyone know where additional information on these can be found? Thanks for your help.

This is probably part of a long-range plan. Superior has the same thing going on..for the past 10 years, they have been developing several barely-refuge-only qualified places into good harbors for anchoring, or in Silver Bay, Minn.'s example, they installed a complete marina. These are all located ont he North Shore of Superior, where the distance is huge between any possible harbor of refuge (sheer rock faces to the water elsewhere).

I would check with the Michigan Dept. of Tourism or the Mich. Dept.
of economic developement.
