Sail vs. Tent cover for CD25

Post by Dan Hanlon »

I need a sail cover so I don't have to remove the main after every sail. I was considering one of those pre-made ones from BoatUS. Now I think maybe a tent cover would also protect a good amount of my teak, cockpit and deck from the elements. Does anybody know where I can get a tent type cover? Any pros and cons visa vie the sail cover?

A tent cover will usually go over the boom & does protect the sail & will keep the sun off of other parts, but if the wind really picks up you may lose it. A good sail cover goes a long way to protect the sail from UV and will add value to the boat. I don't like the off the rack covers because they just don't look as good as a custom made cover. A boom tent will wear the main sail because it't snugged up tight and if there is any motion on the boom, the sail and cover will wear. My recommendation is a custom made sail cover & a sun awning you can put up while you are on the boat. A boom tent if properlly made can double as a sun awning.

The boat us has a zipper at mast & large velcro around mast, push together connectors along boom. Makes it easy & quick even in wind.
Much better than tieing by hand. I just bought one after years of too much time & energy & patience. If you do not like take back. You need cover all around sail.
