25D Fuel filter changes

Post by frank »

I recently changed fuel filters on Yanmar 1gm and bled air from secondary filter bleed screw and injector pump bleed screw. The engine starter right away and ran fine for a while, but when motoring back to the marina couldnt acheive more than 2000 rpm? have recently bled air again and rpm is up to 3500 but engine still seems to lack power at full throttle with max speed 4.7 kt. in still conditions.

Primary fuel filter is Fram unit and was not filled w/ diesel before priming the system w/fuel pump (manual). Any suggestions? Fuel flow seems to be restricted at full throttle. What should be the top end under power?

Frank,

The way I changed the FRAM filter on your boat many times is as follows: (1) Open the bleed screws on top of the filter, (2) open the drain plug at the bottom of filter and drain, (3) replace filter and drain plug, (4) remove entire filter from mounting, (5) hold entire filter as low as possible so fuel from tank will fill filter, (6) replace bleed screws when fuel comes out of bleed holes and remount filter, (7) Start the engine and give it a try. If the engine doesn't start or runs poorly, first bleed the air from the Yanmar fuel filter and then injection pump using the manual fuel feed on the fuel pump.

As far as the 4.7 @ 3500 RPM, you probably need to clean your prop.

Hope your are still happy with the boat!

Thanks for the info Bob. Yes, I am happy with the boat. You were right, almost every time out someone comments on what a beautiful boat she is. By the way, was the boat originally named Music? I remember that name from your flyer and am considering a name.
Also, I am interested in purchasing the trailer from the guy in the Corpus area , do you have any information on where I can get hold of this person?
