(1) Where do you find the hull no. on the CD25? Is it the number on the little plate behind the tiller or is it part of the number on the transom? Seems that a lot of people use the hull no. with the name of their boat in their signature line, why is that?
(2) Is it better to put the motor in the boat and fill the water tank before or after launching or does it not matter one damn bit?
(3) Ordered and received the lettering for the boat's new name and port (is that the proper term), the lettering people sent "BRISTOL, R.I." - I think it looks better to just have "BRISTOL" and to leave off the "R.I.", is that OK? (I know this sounds really petty and nit picky, but it's one of those little things that we're wondering about. For all I know, it could be a huge faux pas to leave out the state initials).
Thanks again for your responses.

Re: Daily dumb newbie questions
Can't speak to #1 or #2, but with respect to #3, it depends on whether your boat is documented with the Coast Guard, in which case you are required to indicate the state. If your boat is not documented but registered with RI, you don't have to put the state on the hull unless RI law says you do.
And by the way, these aren't dumb questions...

Re: Daily dumb newbie questions
1) I don't know about the 25, but on my Ty there is no number on the plate behind the tiller, so I've been using the digits of the serial number on the transom. Why we do that I'm also not sure. I guess it helps us identify where in the chronology of manufacture we lie relative to others. This may help us when hearing about what they are experiencing with their craft and determining whether we might expect the same.
2) Are you launching her yourself from a trailer? That's what I do and I like to keep her as light as possible until in the water.
And there's no such thing as a dumb question, or at least that's what I tell myself when I'm doing the asking!
Good luck,
Joel

Joe,
The HIN is on the back of the transom (upper right) the link below will explain the numbering system. It can be a bit confusing as I found the manufacture month let's say for 1975 runs from Aug 74' (A) through July 75 (L)BUT the model year will be '75 throughout. This is what Will and I concluded comparing hull #'s and months that seemed not to match with the months !

Water/engine weight.. I've asked at both my yards .. and they always say "It does not matter". If your changing any waterline configurations then it might be a better test dropping her in with as much "normal" weight as possible so if she is a little off you can pull her back out and adjust a waterline that is too low. Oh.. and if your engine does not slide easily into the wonderful and tight engine well ( I can't spell "lazerett" )then you may be glad you put it in "on the hard". I have a Nissan 8 electric start and have to corkscrew the guy in.
As far as the "R.I." goes.. There is a Bristol in CT.. and even in Maine so it's not a bad idea if your goin' wanderin up or down the coast.
I wish you as much luck and adventure this year with "bob" as I had my first year with Happy Daze (which was last year).
