Garmin gpsmap 76 vs. Magellan Meridian Mariner.

I've narrowed my choice down to these two models. Anybody have any input to help me decide? thanks

I haven't used the magellan - the Garmin is a nice unit. The map feature lets you point and pick a waypt - nice.

The Megellan has more memory, and is more expandable, but the expansion via SD cards may lead to reliability problems. the Garmin is a sealed unit. I found the memory adequate to download waypoints and improved maps for my area. ( These are NOT chartplotters! )

Look at the user interface of each and pick what you like. Garmin mimics Windows to some degree, which is good.

This is, perhaps, somewhat off target; I use and have used a Garmin GPS in my aircraft for 4 years now and can say without reservation that the brand is excellent. I have never had a failure, regular monthly updates are available on-line @ www.Garmin.com for both charts as well as software updates and their customer support is exemplary.
This is a business aircraft so reliability and support are paramount to me because I spend a great amount of time IFR and depend on this instrument for navagation as well as approaches.

I bought the Garmin last year because it was the cheapest mapping GPS with nav. aids already installed. I paid about $350.00 at West. I've since seen it for about $300 at some flying outlets on the net. Quite pleased with it. You can't beat cruising for hours in pea soup fog and then seeing a buoy emerge from the mist only 20 yards off your bow, exactly where the GPS said it would be. Only issue is it devours batteries. Really need the 12V adapter if you use it as your primary GPS.
