I have a CD25D w/ a 1GM Yanmar engine. Last fall, after having some electrical work done,(the batteries had been disconnected) the tach stopped working. Then after a day or so it started working again. This Spring, after re-installing the batteries, the tach would not operate. But today, after starting the engine for about the fourth time this year, it started working again, although sporadically. Is there anything I should check, or by some wierd chance, is this normal???
Thanks, Bob Ohler

Tachometer problems....

Re: Tachometer problems....
Bob,
Sounds like you have a loose connection or intermittent connection either at the Tach sender on the engine or at the panel end. It may have been loosened when you had electrical work done or it may have done it on it's own due to vibration. Between uses it probably builds up some corrosion. When you restart the engine it has to vibrate and shake around a bit befor good contact is established again.
According to the Yanmar manual, there will be two wires, orange and blue/red, between the sender and the tach. Clean the connections good and reattach and hopefully your tach problem will go away.
