Last year we bought "Eendracht" (CD 36 #54, built 1981), and need advice on a dinghy for her. There will be three of us routinely using her, two adults and a ten year old, and occasional guests. We would prefer a hard dinghy, preferably one with an optional sailing rig, but the major problem is the life raft (6-person Avon, cannister), mounted on the companionway hatch "garage." Per my wife, storing the liferaft under the dinghy is not an option.
Any suggestions on folding or nesting dinghies, vs. where to move the liferaft, vs. give up and get an inflatable? We've even thought of making a nesting dinghy out of an old canoe.
Thanks in advance,
Warren

Many people use davits to solve that problem. They seem to work great if you don't mind the looks of a dinghy hanging off such a pretty stern!

I'm considering a nesting dinghy before leaving on an extended cruise in "Morning Glory" CD#45,1981. TNE Marine makes a 13.5 ft dinghy that nests into 7.6 ft,and it does have a sailing rig. Cost is ~$2500.Their number is 510-684-3481. Let me know how you make out.Warren Stringer wrote: Last year we bought "Eendracht" (CD 36 #54, built 1981), and need advice on a dinghy for her. Don't know if this quite works for you, but there is a Tinker line of inflatable sailing dinghys which can optionally be outfitted with automatic inflation and a canopy for use as a deep water liferaft. I don't believe it is SOLAS certified, but on the other hand you tend to know if it's in good shape since you use it in non-emergency situations. One advantage over most inflatables is that with the centerboard, they row straight.Warren Stringer wrote: Any suggestions on folding or nesting dinghies, vs. where to move the liferaft, vs. give up and get an inflatable?
