The molds for the Typhoon are now at <a href="http://www.compassclassicyachts.com/">Compass Classic Yachts</a> in South Orleans, Mass. They are using them to build a boat called the Hurricane. Merv Hammat of Compass reports:
<blockquote>"We have owned the Typhoon molds for two years now. We are in fact building the Hurricane from some of these molds. Six boats to date. We plugged the hull mold to build our keel centerboard boat. A new deck mold has been built, and we are using the daysailer version liner mold.
We have the molds for all parts for the overnighter and daysailer as Cape Dory built them. I have no plans to build either of these boats, but the molds are still here and it could be done.
It's fun to see some of the comments on your site, and talk to some Typhoon owners at the Maine boat builders show where we show the Hurricane. They either love it or hate it. Most think we did a good job."</blockquote>

Re: "Hurricane" Being Built from Typhoon Molds
Owners of the completely open version of the Ty daysailer (no cuddy forward -- only thirty-some made) will be struck by the similarity of appearance of the Hurricane to our boats (with the exceptions of the wooden spars, gaff rig and teak rather than fiberglas coamings).
