Reviewed with interest the past posted messages regarding the storage of propane cylendars. I readily understand the construction concept of using 4" PVC pipe, an end cap, and a plug for the bottom (with hole drilled for propane to escape should there be a leak). Has anyone come up with a method of securing the pipe to the stantions? Velcro? Pipe clamps? I recall seeing some short essay on the subject in recent years in Cruising World's "Workbench" or was it Good Old Boat or was it Practical Sailor? So... has anyone worked the concept and found/invented a better mousetrap?

Propane Storage on deck with PVC materials

Re: Propane Storage on deck with PVC materials
Hello Jim
I just installed this storage pipe on Rhapsody. I used a piece of teak to form a standoff from the stanchion and then used stainless hose clamps to secure the PVC. Looks good. If you come up with a better mouse trap please let me know.

Re: Contact NE Fleet Captain
Jim,
I suggest you contact MZenith@AOL.com. It was on his boat that I saw this installation. Didn't look at it too closely since I have a dedicated propane locker.

Re: Propane Storage on deck with PVC materials
Take a look at my website, specifically the picture of the GPS mount. You can cut a piece of the 4" pipe, slice out part of the circumference, then bolt rail clamps to it. Heat it to make it "snap fit" onto your 4" container pipe (cut the corners at an angle). Your container of propane can be snapped out of the holder for easier access! This trick works with all kinds of PVC pipe. I've made snap on boom clamps with long PVC pipe extensions, angled up, to catch my main when I'm dropping it.....much nicer than lazy jacks, and snap back off once the sail is secured. They store in a cockpit locker while sailing, since I don't need them while hoisting.
