I need to replace both cockpit lazarette covers on my 1975 CD25. The core is soaked, to the extent that one cover sags noticeably when you step on it.
Is there anyway to get new or used CD-made covers? My alternative is to have the covers rebuilt and I am looking into this, but it seemed it might be better to replace them CD-made covers.
I just bought this lovely boat last summer and this spring am starting to seriously tackle the few problems on the boat. This is first on the list.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

We rebuilt the covers last month on our recently purchased CD25 because of soaked cores. Tracking down the problem it appears that when the cover is steped upon (at least on our boat) the major portion of the load is taken by the hinge and hinge bolts. This caused failures around the holes permiting water to enter.
We used an abrasive wheel on an air tool and cut away the inner shell incrementally until we found dry core. After drying the wet core we dug out the rotted core and replaced it with end sliced fir of like thickness from a 2x4. In the hinge area we used much stronger wood (black locust in our case) to provide additional strength. We then recovered the inner surface with epoxy and fiberglass cloth and repainted. It worked quite well.
BTW it would appear very important to make sure any loading on the lid/seat/step is transfered directly to the lip of the lazzerette NOT thru the hinge bolts!
