First, I need some advice. I put new Knotmeter and Depthsounder in my CD25, but had to buy the Nylon type (they didn't have bronze for the depth sounder). The instructions say to use water based bottom paint on these through hulls. I'm sure Trinidad 75 is not water based (that's what I'm putting on). Should I cover the Nylon with latex paint, then paint over? Any ideas?
Second, here's a tip for those round teak plugs in the cabin. Someone had glued mine on, which was inconvenient. I cleaned everything up, and was puzzling what to do....when....INSPIRATION! Cut a piece of thin Lexan (about 1/16" thick stuff) long enough to reach a little more than the OUTSIDE diameter of the plug. The strip of Lexan should be about 1" wide. Now take some Sheet Metal Tongs (or a large pair of Pliers) and bend the ends over to a right angle. Lexan works like sheet metal....you can bend it in a Sheet Metal Break, with Pliers, whatever. It holds it's new shape but will not break. Now screw the strip to the back of the plug with one screw in the middle. The folded up edges should be facing toward the front of the plug. These serve as latches against the liner. Push one end over the edge of the hole, slid the plug far enough to one side, to hook the other end behind the liner.....and slide the plug into place. It holds easily. If you want it off, just pull.....Lexan won't break!

Need some advice, and here's a tip

Re: Need some advice
Jim,
I don't think they're worried about the nylon, but just the face of the transducer (the "window"), which may not react well to strong solvents. MDR sells a small (2 oz) bottle of waterbase antifouling that they call "Transducer Paint." West has it for $8. Yes, that's $512 a gallon(!!), but in your case it may be the way to go. It'll last for years.
BTW, I'm not sure which is best on the nylon part.
