Chainplates

Post by Rich »

I am in the process of replacing some damaged chainplates on my Intrepid 9M. Some are bent badly (long story). The chainplates appear to be Schaefer hardware. The ones that are not damaged appear to have a very slight bend in them. My question is, are they bent from stress or were they bent originaly? Any comments or recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rich

Not sure what you mean by a very slight bend. Chain plates on my Intrepid 9M are basically bar stock that, when exiting the deck, are tappered to better align with the shrouds -- not bent. There is no fore/aft bend I've seen. If you see a "bend", suggest checking the foundation carefully or fasteners to see if they are part of the problem. Obviously, if you over-stress the chainplates, they will deform...but the fasteners, holes, and mount may show this as well.
