CD25 Portlights

Post by Bruce Lumsden »

Can anyone tell me the size of the bronze opening portlights used in the later model CD25s? My 1974 model has the fixed aluminum framed portlights. I have removed these and have glassed over the openings in preparation for painting the deckmould. I plan to replace them with the bronze items which I will probably obtain from Newfound Metals and would like to have the size of the new ones as close as possible to those used in the later 25s.

Thanks,

Bruce,

On page 65, the 1981 manual posted at

http://www.txdirect.net/users/cd27/

shows the ports to be Spartan Marine P-560 bronze oval ports.

My 1996 catalog from Spartan, #13, shows the dimensions to be:

Opening: 13 1/2" x 4 3/4"
Cutout: 14" x 5 1/4"
Fasteners: #10
Glass Thickness: 1/4"
Spigot length: 1 1/2"
Weight: 14 lbs.

The price on Feb. 12, 1996 was: $221.83.

Spartan is up there in Robinhood,ME so you shouldn't have much trouble gathering more info.

Good luck with your project.

I replaced all the ports on my cd 28 from newfoundmetals....they look incredible. They are water tight, and beautiful. You will really like 'em.

Hi Bruce,

I might be interested in attempting the same project. I'd love a more detailed explanation of how you did the glassing. And how well it came out. How long it took, etc.

My parents live in Harpswell (Cundy's Harbor), so I get up there often. Might I get a look at your boat/work some time? Maybe we can get a discount on the ports by buying 2 sets together?

Cheers
