my freshwater is delivered through the two faucets via a par...jabsco 39650-2000 diaphragm pump. I have had minimal problems with this pump except when it is time to rebuild it...which seems to happen every three years or so. The predecessor to this pump is the 39650-1000, which aside from some upgrades, is nearly identical.
Most of the parts but not all, to rebuild the 1000 unit can be used to rebuild the 2000 unit. It seems the rebuild kit says for 39650 pumps except -2. Problem is getting the right kit for a pump that is only three years old and costs 160 dollars is nearly impossible.
on top of that the rebuild kits are $60. I contacted jabsco in california. They said the 2000 uses a different pulsation dampener than the 1000. They said they would ship me a rebuild kit when they can put together a kit with the needed parts. Well three weeks and several e mails later and still no kit. What I would like to know if you fellow cape dory owners use the same pump....or should I change to a shurflo unit? Being a boat owner, I'M SURE YOU CAN UNDERSTAND HOW FRUSTRATING THIS IS.Any feedback would be appreciated as I would like to empty three full water tanks the easier way.

I'm not sure what number I've got on my 31, but what goes wrong when you have to rebuild them? What happened to mine is the edge of the diaphram leaked and it lost its seal, but when I took it apart I couldn't see a hole in the diaphagm. I put some silicone sealant on both sides of the edge of the diaphragm and put it back together and it's been working for about 5 years now. I'd hesitate to go to a surflow unless you have no choice. Someone told me there were designed for the RV industry and not as reliable as Jabsco although I have no personal experience with them. Does something else go wrong with your pumps other than the diaphragms? Good luck and let us know what you find out.

my CD30 came equiped with a whale gusher foot pump for galley sink...
for twenty years i put up with this misserable set up until this spring...since i had a sureflow at hand i used it rite under the sink
with a push switch about knee hi and it works great so far...wired it
directly into battery with 15a fuse inline...it sucks water from tanks very efficiently....
hope this helps...

Charlie,
I have found that the problem with these pumps is that they are very sensitive to dirt. You may find that just disassembling and cleaning things will fix your problem. BTW I use a pump calle the "silencer". Can't remember whether it is a par or a shurflo unit. It is much quieter than the original pump. It is six years old and after 4 years I had to take it apart and clean it. The only problem is that when a tank runs dry the pump is so quiet that you can not hear it running.
