hey pals,
so my new 1976 cd25 has a manualy started outboard it has 2 wires going down into the boat. im assuming these are to charge the battery. do they hook directy up to the battery? is there a regulator involved? the engine is a 86 johnson 9 HP 2cycle, but i dont know what type of alternator it has....

Yes, the two wires hook up to the battery. As I recall, that engine has a pathetic little 4amp alternator (by today's standards)...but what ads insult to injury is that you need to spin the engine up to something like 3000-4000rpm to get the 4 amps. A solar panel will do a better job keeping your battery charged.

Keep in mind too when you attach those wires to the battery you are now charging the hole engine and you need to run zinc on the engine. I'm sure there is one there, you might just want to check if you are unsure.
