Morey's Super Red Grease revisited

I was driving down the road and saw a NAPA store and could not resist going in and trying to buy a cartridge of the Morey's grease that was discussed so much a few months back. They had one tube left, and I BOUGHT IT!
Here's all the pertinent NAPA info you will ever need to get any NAPA store to order this stuff for you.

That will get you a 14 oz. cartridge of Morey's Super Red Premium Water Proof Mutli purpose E.P. Grease. Mine is sitting here on my desk.

OK, since you re-opened the worm can, I found a bottle of Spartan Seacock grease onboard Parfait last weekend. On the label is says that it is specially formulated for bronze seacocks to keep them from freezing. I assume this means freezing up and becoming impossible to move as opposed to becoming very cold and solidfying, since they already seem to be solids.

Does anyone know what the special formulation is? Does is contain bits of copper or something to keep the barrel and housing at the same potential, like some anti-sieze compounds?

Now I want to experiment with it, since I have most of an $8 bottle to play with, but I am not hauling out for this! Defender lists the Spartan grease in their paper catalog for around $9 for about 1/4 the volume if anyone wants to use the "official" grease. I did not find it in the online catalog. Either way, you are looking at nearly a lifetime supply for under $10.

BTW, does anyone have experience with intermittant Chevy Astro (89) speedos?

It seems to be a regular lanolin based industrial grease, similar to Lanocote but I don't think any where near as good. Definitely smells, looks and feels like it. I never had much luck with the Spartan stuff so gave it up many years ago. That's when I started searching for and trying different greases and discovered Moreys. Have been using it for years now.

Maybe mixing in some Bostik marine grade Neverseize into the Spartan grease would improve it. If you feel like experimenting you might want to consider that. I've got a full bottle of the Spartan grease kicking around also.

Intermittant? If you mean the needle jumps around... it could be a rock dent in the cable cover. Thats what mine was. Boyd.

No, this is an electronic speedo pickup with an analog meter. Sometimes it jumps, but mostly it either works or is dead. Sometimes the odometer works and sometimes not. Maybe there are two problems....
