Just got my engine running again ysm8 she dropped rpm last week and
replaced filts (Main was clogged) and bled system..took better part of day as was trouble shhoting sys removing ever fuel line and hose from the tank to the high press pump.
turned out the main filt was clogged and the banjo fitting to the feed on the secondary filt was a bit loose.
ANY how..... is it neccesary to replace the banjo washers when removing the fittings??
what could occur if they are not replaced?
AIR FIlTER. does the engine NOT have an air filter? it seems to only have a canister with no filter element...the engine is 20 yrs old/
Has anyone removed and cleaned the mixing elbow on the exhaust side..
if so how often should that be done and how??
thank you

Regarding the banjo fuel line fittings it is extremely prudent to replace the tin plated copper sealing washers if the fitting has been loosened or removed and replaced. If you don't there is a good risk of developing an air leak.Marv wrote: Just got my engine running again ysm8 she dropped rpm last week and

Regarding the YSM air filter I'll leave that for owners of the same engine since I'm not familiar with that air intake however it more than likely would be my assumption that it originally had a spun fiber oil soaked filter in place. Any exhaust riser mixing elbow has a limited life span due to interior corrosion from hot gases mixing with moisture and highly corrosive salt water. Cleaning them is not a common practice but I see no reason why you couldn't try if you want to bother with it. If you break loose internal corrosion you may actually shorten it's life span in an effort to extend it. If it's cloging you should replace it asap.
