Bittersweet Typhoon Launching

Post by Serge Zimberoff »

Late getting in the water this year. With a new jib and gennaker it should be a great season. Deadline finally set as Saturday before Father's Day. Confident spouse invites friends for a Father's Day sail. Two weeks to go. Timeline/list-to-do almost possible. Each day check off done. Find new needs but omit some that can be done in the marina later. Every day till dark but it's coming together. Wednesday 6/13, list is step mast to setup new standing rigging and wax hull. Thursday to provision. Friday unstep mast and ready for travel. Saturday launch.
Wednesday mast is stepped and I finish buffing hull. Looks beautiful. On schedule. Nauseous? Major type pain and swelling in lower abdomen. Personnal physician (also bridge partner) comes over. Calls emergency room to see which surgeon is on. Pleased with findings he drives me to hospital. He even scrubs in and assists.
Spouse flies home Thursday to spring me from hospital. She had just gone Wednesday to Seattle for a quick visit with grandkids. However I can only walk around. Can't lift anything or twist and sit to even be comfortable aboard. Friends finish Thursday and Friday's tasks. I go with Saturday a.m. and they launch 'Cloning Around' with my oversight. They motor to slip and I walk over. They secure boat while I watch.
Well it's in the water but no Father's Day sail. In a week I can go aboard to adjust the rigging etc but can't even be crew for three to four weeks.
Really looks great though!

Hope you are recovering and in less pain... WHAT HAPPENED??? Whatever it was, did it require surgery? Anyway, with your TY in the water, you must be raring to go, but take it easy. Hope you get better soon.
