I just bought a Cape Dory 18 ft sail boat(My 1st boat, I've never sailed before)it was advertised as a Cape Dory "Victoria eighteen".
However I can only find reference to the Typhoon, yet the seller emphasises that Victoria eighteen is the model name.
Could someone clarify this issue? I bought it because I thought it would be Ideal to learn on, I never expected there would be an Identity crisis

Is Victoria eighteen a model name for the typhoon?

A Victoria 18 is a comletely different boat, although the lines are somewhat similar. I think its water line is about 12' (large overhang). Do a search on google.com for 'victoria 18' and you'll get a lot of hits. A popular boat. A friend has one which I've sailed. It's very unstable at the dock because of the overhang, but once under sail it has more stability.
So I guess the question is: what do you really have? A Cape Dory or a Victoria 18.
There's a photo of one with specs at:
