Mainsail Slug Shackles for 25D

Hello to All

I purchased a "new" used main for a fellow CDer and the slug shackles jam on my mast gate. I ordered (from my sail maker) two sample sizes of plastic shackles (the shackles are what are jamming not the slugs)and the smaller of the two still "slightly" jam going up and down. I dont think that needs to happen, as when I want/need the sail down, I want/need it down, not jamming on each slide....

My sail maker said the the thing to do was to sew each slug on with webbing (that is how my old main is done). Does anyone have a different suggestion/fix?

any comments would be highly welcomed.
