Friday we got a fair look at the boat. Thank you all for your suggestions and concerns. I can now offer feedback. First of all the starboard side of the boat exists. The owner did some adding of counter and drawer space, eliminating the starboard settee, and re positioning the sink. The setup is not to my taste but for single-handing makes some sense. No stove and no head. The head area is full of stored stuff.
But - The boat was dry on a rainy day, no obvious exterior or interior damage or problems evident. The Yanmar cranked right up, shifted, etc with no problems. Rigging appeared servicable and all the attachment points and mild steel plates were in good condition. The sails were servicable. Naturally a good survey would be in order.
I believe it's a decent boat at an $8,000 asking price. My wife likes the idea of a CD-27 as opposed to our CD-30 . . . but she really wants the CD-33 interior space and accomodation in the CD-27 hull . . . if you engineers solve that one, let me know!
Bill Stewart the broker for this boat seems very straightfoward and knowledgeable. His specialty is old boats.
