I am visiting Florida from NC. I'm going to look at a CD-27 offered by Bill Stewart Marine. He states that he specializes in cheap boats and this appears to be one.

Less than 10 grand is less than half of what a decent one is worth. I followed the additional photos link and have a couple of concerns. First of all, look at the photo of the salon looking aft. Besides the interior looking very dirty, note that a sink enclosure was built in forward of the icebox. It does not look like a professional job--they left the hole for the drawer gaping open!! This, of course, reduces the starboard settee size significantly. Might be alot of carpentry to get it back to original shape.
$8000 for a CD27 raises some red flags. If the engine is beyond salvage and the sails are beyond reclamation and the standing rigging needs replacement (and at that price I can only assume this is all true) you are looking at 10 to 15 grand right there depending on how frugal a shopper you are. And that does not include likely need for barrier coat, deck core issues, you name it. Better off finding a well maintained 27 at market price.
On the other hand.......if the deck and hull are sound, and someone wants to get into a great sailing project boat for pennies as a labor of love and invest sweat equity--then maybe a survey is in order. Just be careful and realistic about what it needs, what that costs and your DIY abilities.
