CD22 & trailering

Post by Patrick Turner »

How many of you CD22 owners (or others for that matter) have had experience in trailering your boat? What information can you pass along? What trailers have you used and what was it like moving down the road with that behind you? How long does it take to take down and then reset the boat for sailing?
My wife and I bought a CD22 last summer and might entertain the idea of trailering the boat to some areas like San Juan Islands, So. Cal to do Catalina Island etc.

Any information would be appreciated,

Pat

My first experience towing anything was our Typhoon Senior from Jacksonville, Fl to just south of Boston with my father in law. Talk about jumping into the frying pan! It was fine. I have a single axle EZ loader trailer. It's alot of work...to much work if you're going to be putting it in and out all the time. I put it in at the beginning of the season and take it out at the end! I'd contemplate doing it for a long vacation (more than a couple of weeks) Be happy to talk to you about my experience.

Pat,
I've trailered my CD22 a bit and have a Triad trailer. I suggest you check the master cylinder and the rest of the brake system for rust and proper function. When the boat is launched, the brake system is totally submerged and can take in water through the master cylinder vent. If you have a triad trailer or one similar lowering the rear supports before launching and retrieval will make the job easier.

We have trailered a 25D and a Boulder friend has trailered a 22D to a less extent. See my response to Floating 25D off Triad trailer by the Olsens. We both use similar approach.
